The recent merger of Fidelity Title and Chicago Title created the nation’s biggest real estate title company. The merger culminated 20 years of rapid growth for Fidelity under Foley, an aggressive West Point graduate who has been called “the Bruce Lee of title insurers.” California’s attorney general sued Fidelity and other title companies in ‘99, charging them with saddling California consumers with $500 million in excess fees. Foley also heads CKE Restaurants, which controls the Carl’s Jr. hamburger chain.
