Deaths and resignations created electoral anomalies in five House districts. Mike O’Day won a January 2007 runoff for District 29, a  seat vacated by Rep. Glenda Dawson’s death four months earlier. Rep.  Joe Moreno’s death similarly triggered special elections for District  143 in late 2005. Winner Ana Hernandez then prevailed as an incumbent  in this district in 2006. Rep. Vilma Luna’s resignation in 2006  created an open seat in District 33 won by Solomon Ortiz. District 48  Rep. Todd Baxter’s resignation from District 121 in late 2005 triggered a special  election won by Donna Howard, who then prevailed as an incumbent in late 2006. Rep. Elizabeth Ames Jones’ resignation in early 2005  prompted a special election won by Joe Straus, who then prevailed as  an incumbent in late 2006.
