The 100 Biggest PACs in Texas

Data analyzed in this report come from expenditure data that general-purpose political action committees (PACs) file with the Texas Ethics Commission. Contributions to candidates for Texas statewide and legislative offices are the leading expenditure of most of these PACs. However, some PACs also report other significant expenditures, including contributions to federal candidates, out-of-state contributions, direct mail costs, issue ad spending and payment of overhead costs. This report only analyzes PACs that reported expenditures during 1997 or 1998. These data are compared to earlier PAC expenditure figures found in a previous Texas PACs report that Texans for Public Justice (TPJ) published in October 1998. See below to learn how to obtain these and other TPJ reports.
